Complex and smooth, offering rich fruit flavours and fine tannins. Classic Cabernet franc typicity is evident with the concentrated fruit and cinnamon spice, with an intriguing character of peanuts and cloves.

Technical Analysis

Food Suggestions This wine is typically South African: friendly, inviting and accessible. Given the nature of South Africans, they like anything over a fire. So my ideal would be to pair it with roasted lamb cutlets and greens, or a lemon and herb chicken with mielie pap and smoor.
In The Cellar The Morgenster single varietal range is made in an accessible fruit driven style to enhance the unique varietal characteristics that the Morgenster terroir lends to these popular grapes. The wines in this range offer consumers interesting insights into the dynamics of blending by showcasing each grape’s unique contribution before grapes from mature vineyards go into the Estate’s prized blends. While Morgenster Cabernet Franc 2015 was made to be enjoyed soon, it is still a Morgenster wine with typical traits like velvety soft tannins which broaden palate weight and add an extra dimension to a very fruit driven experience. In the 2015 vintage Morgenster presented the market with wines under a screwcap for the first time.
In The Vineyard This was the earliest start to any season in in more than 40 years. Budding was earlier, so too were flowering and grape set caused by a warmer November and December. It was also quite dry, with November 2014 being the last nice wet spell. What seemed like an unpredictable harvest delivered good surprises with the 2015 wines showing great quality
