Red Blend - Lourens River Valley

Lourens River Valley

At Morgenster we employ a rigorous three tier selection process; handpicked in the vineyards, pre-crush sorting table selection of bunches as they enter the winery and again after barrel maturation which dictates a single minded quality focus for the Lourens River Valley – in fact it was the first label launched by Morgenster’s owner Giulio Bertrand with the 1998 vintage. Bertrand’s exacting quality standards, have if anything, become more meticulous over the years
as the fledgling brand begins to make it’s mark in both the local and international markets on the right track to achieving the audacious vision of producing two world-class red blends.

In style, this wine is a classic, elegantly crafted Cape Bordeaux-style blend. The wines of Morgenster are hand crafted to make the most from the combination of our great terroir, international expertise, pure passion and dedication.

COLOUR: Deep ruby-red

NOSE: Ripe, sexy, expressive nose that gets one off to an excellent start; light toasted tobacco, liquorice, spice, herbs and minerals

PALATE: The flavour profile Is on a par with the complexity of the aromatics. One feels seduced by this modern wine’s elegance and balance rather than sheer power. The fruit is sweet and sexy, while the finish is long and consistent. The wine will reward cellaring with a marked evolution

VINTAGE CONDITIONS: A challenging vintage with much debate over the optimum ripening status of the grapes. Strict crop thinning (green harvest) was employed to ensure the quality. The season was almost 4 weeks later than 2003.

MATURATION: 100% barrel matured in 300l oak, from French coopers, for 13 months.
